Think you know New York? One of our young writers takes you inside a hidden gem near Battery Park - Fraunces Tavern, the city’s oldest restaurant and the spot where George Washington said his famous farewell.
New York City!
I mean, everybody knows of the Statute of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, The 9-11 Memorial, etc. Do you know about a historic restaurant located near Battery Park that once hosted president George Washington? It has a museum on the second and third floor.
The name of the restaurant is Fraunces Tavern. It was established in 1762. It is considered New York’s oldest and most historical Bar and Restaurant. It is most famous for George Washington gathering on December 4th, 1783 with fellow officers nine days after the last of British officers left American soil.
